About Me
Weave with Flax - Traditional and contemporary Maori Weaving
I was born in Rawene Hospital and attended Rawene school until I left which was when the school burnt down. The students were relocated to Northland College or kohukohu but I just never went back.
I first started weaving while at Rawene high school, we wove our piupiu and hand stitched our bodices.
Once I left school I never wove again until later in life when I lived in Brisbane, I met a lady who was teaching the art of weaving korowai so I booked for her classes.
I really enjoy weaving korowai.
I moved back to Aotearoa in 2016 and moved up to the Hokianga which is where met T who took the time to teach me how to weave with harakeke (flax).
I sometimes teach those that want to learn but I am hoping to set up an online teaching course.
Since I have been weaving with harakeke I can't seem to put it down.
I find peace and calmness in weaving, with room to learn new techniques everyday.
