Muka

Muka is the fibre extracted from the leaf of the harakeke. The black edged varieties of flax are regarded by a lot of weavers as having the best muka, however having a black edge is not the only flax plant with good muka fibre, some orange edged varieties such as arawa and makaweroa are also very good for muka extracting.
